Hi, I’m posting some fun music facts on Bluesky.
You: "Hey Jeff, you got anything good on Hall and Oates?"
Me: "They never called themselves Hall and Oates. All their records say Daryl Hall and John Oates. Also, there is a 9-inch height difference between Hall & Oates."
You: “Jeff, it was an historically bad week, tell me something fun.”
Me: “Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division was a direct response to the popular pop song “Love Will Keep Us Together” by Captain & Tennille.
You: “not bad, got any others?”
Me (opening my fun.txt file): “The three Duran Duran members named Taylor are not related.”
You: “Jeff, I’m heading to a cocktail party and I need a good ice-breaker.”
Me: “The Ramone’s ‘Blitzkrieg Bop’ was inspired by “Saturday Night” by the Bay City Rollers. Joey wanted a song with a chant in it.”

You: “Jeff, quick, I need to impress this cute music nerd i just met. Gimme a gem!”
Me: “The Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen In Love…” was inspired by the dialogue (“Have you ever fallen in love with someone you shouldn’t have”) in the 1955 film Guys & Dolls.”
You: “Jeff, I’m going to a yacht rock concert, give me fun fact that wasn’t in that doc.”
Me: “Dan Seals of England Dan & John Ford Coley (‘I’d Really Love to See You Tonight’) is the younger brother of Seals & Crofts (‘Summer Breeze’) member Jim Seals.”
You: “Jeff, you got any music fun facts that are not very fun?”
Me: “The woman who Gordon Lightfoot wrote about in his hit song ‘Sundown’ (1974) was Cathy Smith. She is the same woman who injected John Belushi with 11 speedballs (a combination of cocaine and heroin) on the night of his death.”

Me (lowering my sunglasses): Corey Hart declined the offer to sing “Danger Zone” for “Top Gun.”
The record label for “The Breakfast Club” wanted Hart to sing “Don’t You Forget About Me” but the songwriter wanted Simple Minds (who initially declined).
You: “Hey Jeff, got any birthday themed fun facts?”
Me (icing a cake): “Billy Bragg and Mike Watt were both born in 1957 on the same day (fires confetti cannon)… December 20th.”

Me (eating an English muffin): “Peter Gabriel had Dolly Parton in mind to sing the duet ‘Don’t Give Up’ but she turned it down and his friend Kate Bush stepped in. The duet ‘Islands in the Stream’ by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers was written by The Bee Gees.”
